A couple of weeks ago, I was invited to attend the free media opening for the new Safari Run Plano, a franchise of the Safari Run play gyms for kids that were started in California.
The kids and I were delighted by this new kind of indoor play gym and we will definitely be adding this to the list of our rotating indoor summer activity ideas for when it gets too hot outside.
What is Safari Run?
Safari Run Plano is a open play gym/fitness center designed so that children and their parents can stay healthy together. The open play area allows children to run freely while their parents have fitness classes in the same room. Safety, cleanliness, and fun are all emphasized. Parents were allowed to join in, and they have fun challenges for children to try so they won’t get bored.
In addition to the main play floor, there is a smaller playground for toddlers and babies, which has a video screen that parents can use to look in on their older kids in the main play area, which I thought was a nice touch.
Indoor Fun at Safari Run Plano
My kids had a blast playing in the open play center. So much so, that they almost missed getting to visit the arcade. The arcade was small, but it was nice to have the ability to have something less active to do when the kids got too hot from playing on the large equipment.*****************
The open play area also has a few free-play items for kids to use, including marked lines for races and soft balls. Bo thought it was super fun to race the balls from one end of the room to the other along the racing lines. Monkey preferred climbing in the giant play structure and sliding down the slides.
If parents don’t want to exercise or play with their kids, Safari Run Plano also has multiple seating areas in full view of all play spaces. Security is obvious with locked gates and video screens everywhere so you don’t have to worry about losing your kids. The room is also small enough so that you can see most of it from the seating areas.
In the fall, Safari Run Plano plans to add fitness classes for adults, which I’m excited by. They also have some really fun birthday packages.
If you want to try out-of-the-box indoor fun this summer, definitely check out Safari Run!
