Want to increase your child’s vocabulary, improve penmanship, and learn about community helpers? You just need this community helpers vocabulary printable!
For this community helpers unit study, I wanted to combine several elements of our homeschool day into one. With this community helper vocabulary printable, I combined elements of vocabulary, penmanship, writing, grammar, and spelling all in one. The lesson also sparked conversations about the 10 community helpers included in the printable.
How to Use the Community Helper Vocabulary Printable
You only need a few things for this no-prep language arts activity!
I printed our printables onto regular paper. Next, I allowed Monkey to select which worksheets she wanted to complete out of the 10 included in the pack (she chose police office and teacher).
I then had her write a sentence using one of the themed community helper vocabulary words from the word bank. After each sentence, Monkey allowed herself to color one part of the community helper.
Although Monkey doesn’t usually practice good penmanship, she surprised me with her neatness during this activity.
While Monkey was writing her sentences, we talked about what each word meant and how the community helper in that career would use each word.
